From the Morning is an acoustic duo based in Sumter, SC. Comprising vocalist AshLee Holloman and guitarist/vocalist Kevin Jarvis, the group was formed in late 2014. Since the first performance in December, 2014, From the Morning has been performing at restaurants, festivals, churches, private parties and fundraisers across the midlands of SC. They are often joined on stage by various friends and musical cohorts.
AshLee and Kevin met while playing together in a local multi-denominational praise and worship band, and decided to branch out and start an acoustic project. Taking their name from a song by the late British singer-songwriter Nick Drake, From the Morning plays acoustic arrangements of a wide variety of musical styles, including folk, rock, country, gospel, and pop. From classics like the Beatles, Dolly Parton, James Taylor, and Johnny Cash to more modern music by the likes of Collective Soul, U2, the Decemberists, and Norah Jones, and mixing in a few old Gospel standards and the occasional new original composition, From the Morning offers something for everyone.
In the Summer of 2015, From the Morning released their debut single, an original song entitled "The Bridge." Later that year, they followed this release with a second digital single, a cover of the beloved Christmas carol, "O Holy Night." The first full length album, PROMISED LAND, was released in May of 2016 both digitally and on CD. The album features a mixture of original tunes and new interpretations of a few folk and gospel standards. A new Christmas song, our arrangement of the traditional "Christ Child's Lullabye," was released digitally in November, 2016, and another, "The Friendly Beasts," in November of 2017, and "The First Noel" in November of 2018. A cover of the praise and worship song "Holy Spirit" was released in February, 2019.
In February, 2020, Starcross Music released I SHOULD HAVE BEEN HOME YESTERDAY: CELEBRATING THE MUSIC OF JOHN DENVER, which included From the Morning's cover of "Sunshine on My Shoulders." The album includes 15 John Denver songs by various independent artists, and is available on CD and digitally. Later that year, the band released their second full-length album in NOEL, a collection of traditional and new original Christmas songs.
